Book Review: Watercolor Wisdom by Kristine Rapohina

I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of Watercolor Wisdom by Kristine Rapohina a few weeks ago. As I create my own watercolour tutorials, I was really excited to uncover the fifteen projects featured in the publication.

Watercolor Wisdom takes an innovative approach to teaching. Alongside detailed materials and techniques pages, the book utilises QR codes to share YouTube tutorials which help recreate the subjects within the book. Readers simply scan the code to access real-time tutorials.

If you prefer a visual approach to learning, as opposed to reading, there is no doubt that you will enjoy this guide. Additionally, you receive a block of quality hot pressed paper, something that will undoubtably encourage your success with watercolour.

The Subjects

The book provides fifteen tutorials to try. The book is heavily focused on flowers, with some leaf and fruit tutorials dotted throughout. The book progresses from smaller pieces to large, complex tutorials towards the end.

What I Liked

I really appreciate the book’s visual appeal and careful instructions. Kristine explains each idea thoroughly and her video tutorials are easy to follow.

The book is beautifully presented with eye-catching illustrations. It is clear that Kristine is truly passionate about her work and deeply committed to teaching her readers as thoroughly as possible.

Recommendations

If you have an interest in watercolour botanical art, this is the book for you. Especially if you enjoy creating stunning flowers.

With the book’s careful instructions and detailed approach to teaching, this publication provides everything you need to get started with watercolour art.

Final Thoughts

Watercolor Wisdom is more than just a book, it’s a beautifully crafted guide that supports artists at any stage of their journey. The combination of clear, step-by-step instructions and helpful video tutorials makes learning accessible and enjoyable. Kristine Rapohina’s teaching style is both patient and inspiring. Additionally, the inclusion of high-quality hot pressed paper adds additional uniqueness to the book.

If you’re looking for a visually rich, well-structured and enjoyable introduction to watercolour, this book is a fantastic resource. It’s a joy to work through and one I’ll be returning to! Thank you so much for sharing this with me.
