A Year in Bloom: The Creation of my 2026 Calendar

As the seasons change and the chill of winter creeps in, I find myself returning to my past artwork for some botanical joy. Pages of work filled with beautiful plants; their beauty preserved in time. Each drawing marks a quiet moment spent observing, growing and nurturing nature. This year, I wanted to gather those moments into something special to celebrate the lifecycles of these precious plants. That’s how the idea of a 2026 Botanical Calendar truly came to life.

The Inspiration: Nature Throughout the Year

The calendar follows the rhythm of the year through twelve botanical pieces. Each month carries its own mood, such as:

  • July – Sunflowers: vibrant, sunny flowers that undoubtably share joy to those who observe them.
  • August – Blueberries: a cluster of simple berries, to highlight summer’s bounty.
  • December – Holly: to share joy and cheer in the festive months, and display the continuation of botanical beauty in winter.

I wanted each page to feel like an invitation to note the details of the changing seasons. The shapes, colours and textures of these plants guided each placement, reminding me of the beauty in the small and changing moments of nature.

The Artistic Process: From Growing to Illustrating

Many of the original paintings began as simple ideas and small bursts of inspiration in the garden. Later, I capture these moments in watercolour paintings or pencil; sometimes even sharing complete the joy of illustrating these plants with my Patreon community.

Painting botanicals has always been a meditative practice for me, a chance to truly slow down, observe and connect with the calming, natural world. The calendar is more than a practical way to mark the months, it’s a record of these small yet mindful moments.

Creating the calendar reminded me how much joy there is in living with art daily. That same spirit flows through my botanical greeting cards, art coaster, and books. These pieces are designed to bring the garden into your home in small, meaningful ways.

Whether you’re writing a special note on a floral card, enjoying tea on a bloom-covered coaster, or turning the calendar page to greet a new month, each item carries a touch of nature’s calm into your day. You can explore the full collection in my online shop.

I would love to know in the comments below how you bring the beauty of seasonal botanicals into your home.
